Q:
What is the selection criteria and qualifications for Academic Excellence Scholarship of undergraduate students?

A:

Academic Excellence Scholarship (for high honor and honor) students get replaced from voluntary application of the selection by Vice President of Office of Student Affairs. It is judged from a list of students’ records, and the following students will be excluded by the selection;

  1. A student who didn’t attain required credits
  2. A student who had guaranteed continuing scholarship
    (Scholarship for Patriots and veterans, Welfare Scholarship, Student-headed Household Scholarship, Somang Scholarship, Specialized students at Math and Science, Anam Scholarship, Crimson Scholarship)
  3. A student who stays out of school just before the semester
  4. A soon-to-be graduate
  5. A student who receives scholastic warning
  6. A student who took disciplinary measures by school authorities
  7. A student who starts 1st semester of his/her 2nd major

A student who is supposed to receive another scholarship will be deferred to the 2nd selection according to the result.

Q:
When is the period of applications of Academic Pursuit Scholarship for undergraduate students and student loan? And how can students apply for this scholarship?

A:

Academic Pursuit Scholarship and student loan must apply, which is available at http://portal.korea.ac.kr Information Depot Scholarship application, from the start of final exam each semester to a fixed date period. Students who apply to Academic Pursuit Scholarship must complete the application and submit it with the required documents.

Please pay attention to the notice on a campus newspaper, www.kukey.com; a website, www.korea.ac.kr; KUPID and boards of each college websites in order to not miss the deadline. If a student meets the criteria for scholastic achievements, he/she will receive the Academic Excellence Scholarship even though he/she applied for Academic Pursuit Scholarship.

What is the selection criteria and required documents for Academic Pursuit Scholarship?

A:

Academic Pursuit Scholarship gives a student in low income families a preference. For those who independently apply through KUPID, students must submit documents to Student Affairs Office within the deadline.

  1. scholarship application and statement
    (Download : http://portal.korea.ac.kr > Knowledge management > Affairs > Student affairs > Forms or a school website etc. )
  2. a copy of the resident registration or a copy your family register
  3. a copy of certificate of taxation of each parent
  4. Certificate of Income Amount or Receipt For Earned Income Tax Withholding, a copy of each parent (one who does not have a benefit must submit Certificate for Non-Business Registration)
  5. Documentation of living with a low income

A student who is supposed to receive another scholarship will be deferred to the 2nd selection according to the result.

Q:
How can we confirm the result of Academic Excellence Scholarship (high honors, honors, and special-case students) and Academic Pursuit Scholarship?

A:

Students who are supposed to gain Academic Excellence Scholarship (high honors, honors, and special-case students) and academic Pursuit Scholarship are notified before the date of tuition payment with a deduction.
The result of the selection can be confirmed through KUPID http://portal.korea.ac.kr Information Depot > Scholarship application > Scholarship/Student Loan Recipients.

Q:
If the selected scholarship students of Academic Excellence Scholarship and Academic Pursuit Scholarship have a leave of absence from school, does the scholarship carry over to the next semester?

A:

Full scholarships (Student Specialty Scholarship, Student High-honors Scholarship) are not carried over, and partial scholarship (Honors Scholarship and Academic Pursuit Scholarship) can be carried over to the next semester.

Q:
How can students apply for Scholarship for Patriots and Veterans and what is its deadline?

A:

For entering freshmen, patriots or veterans (grand)children must submit the certificate of college admission and a copy of remission statement of school tuition issued by Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Tel: 02-984-1602~4); Seochang Campus Daejon Patriots & Veterans Affairs (Tel: 042-253-6784~5, or other designated ministries Office of Student Affairs, located in second floor of 4.18 Memorial Hall (Tel: 02-3290-1105 ) during the period of registration.
And students must submit it with written form of registration fee in order to confirm the deduction of tuition and register at the specified bank.

For those who are North Korean defectors who need guardianship in education, students must submit a certificate of guardianship in education from Ministry of Unification to Office of Student Affairs. Current undergraduate students must also hand the documents mentioned above.
Those who receive this scholarship are awarded for eight semesters (twelve semesters in College of Medicine), but in case of dual+ majors, it can applicable within 8 semesters.

Q:
What are the qualifications, the deadline and an expected scholarship amount of Freshmen Academic Pursuit Scholarship, Student-headed Household Scholarship, Somang Scholarship, Student Loan Scholarship, and Korea University Family Scholarship?

A:
  • Freshmen Academic Pursuit Scholarship: Students in low income families, 35% of entrance registration and tuition fees awarded
  • Student-headed Household Scholarship: Child-headed household, the students of orphan or nurture house, and the students by national basic life guarantee law, a full scholarship awarded during 4 semesters
  • Somang Scholarship: Special education students and undergraduate handicapped students in low income families , 50% of tuition fees awarded during 8 semesters
  • Student Loan Scholarship: Brothers and sisters (or family members in a direct line) who are in college or children of a schoolfellow, 35% of tuition fees awarded (only twice).

Q:
What is Volunteering Scholarship?

A:

Volunteer’s Scholarship is given to students who contribute to the community including serving on the student body council or other student-run organizations such as different dongari, a school newspaper, a broadcasting station, etc.
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is June and December.

Q:
How can I apply as an on-campus working student?

A:

If students work in a designated department to the university, students earn 4,500 won per hour. The administrative departments employ working student whenever necessary and a student on leave of absence is possible to apply it.

Q:
In a case of registering 9+ semester, is it possible to deduct a tuition fees?

A:

In that case
1~3 credits – a deduction of 5/6
4~6 credits – a deduction of 2/3
7~9 credits – a deduction of 1/2
10~11+ credits – a deduction of 1/4

Q:
What is a letter of Commendation for an excellent student?

A:

For those who take 17+(18 in specialized schools) and receive an average of 4.0 GPA are considered to be excelled students and the student’s Office of Student Affairs or Departmental Office will award a certificate and letter of commendation. But it does not guarantee that students will receive monetary scholarships.

Q:
How and when can I confirm the results of scholarship recipients?

A:

In a case of scholarships such as Academic Excellence Scholarship, Academic Pursuit Scholarship, and Consecutive Scholarship, the scholarships are declared on a payment notice. And in a case of scholarship related to the deposits of Hana Bank would be paid with the student’s account. The letter of notice will be sent to the student’s family address.
